I've seen a bunch of refreshed Civic sedans driving around lately, and I've concluded that I like the way the new rear end looks - a lot. I think it's mainly because of how the chrome strip's curve ends in the taillights and how the brake lights wrap around that element, in addition to their... texture, I guess?
Another part of it is how it looks compared to other cars - the 2012 Civic's taillights look like they came straight off of a 2002-2004 Camry, while other compact/subcompact sedans like the Focus, Corolla, and Rio have taillights that don't look exactly alike but are still very similar.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying the Civic's on the same level as an Aston Martin V12 Zagato and the like - I just think it's one of the better-looking beigemobiles on sale here in the States. I still don't like the 2013 Civic coupe, though. It didn't get any exterior changes, as far as I know.

I've caught myself admiring that back end often. It's very attractive.

Agreed. The whole car is actually quite good looking. Looks much more expensive than the competitors.

It's certainly an improvement, but civics have been ugly for about 5 years IMHO.

While you are correct that it is an improvement on the 2012. The new Civics are a massive disappointment. Since 2005 there has not been an interesting civic and the SI has pretty much lost all appeal. While the things coming out in Europe from honda are nothing short of awesome! what they have done in north america is basically the same as shitting on my breakfast cereal. I owned an 04 Civic coupe, an 01 Integra GSR and an 05 Civic SI. This year when the SI was totaled I switched to ford. I really wish Honda would make something to bring me back. I have so much money I would like to give them for a fun and inspired Hatchback.
